Schools and other organizations reach out to us and certify that they know of a foster child or other youth who could use some financial support. HeartReach identifies opportunities for that child to create artwork, and provides the child with a template and helpful tips to use when creating their drawings. In order to protect their privacy, each child is given the opportunity to select their favorite fake name to display on the cards bearing their artwork. They are also associated with a unique HeartReach identification number.
For general use drawings such as Thank You cards and retention cards for dental, optometry and veterinarian services, the drawings are categorized appropriately and added to the online store.
Each card includes a child's drawing, the child's 'name', their HeartReach identification number, and a QR code. Each card also explains the mission of HeartReach Cards and offers the consumer the opportunity to donate directly to the future of the child using the QR code and child's identification number.
General use cards (such as Thank You cards and retention cards for dental, optometry and veterinarian services) are blank on the back, allowing the business or doctor's office to easily print the recipient's address and additional messages on each card. General use cards come in high quality 8 1/2" x 11" card stock that may be run through any standard printer and are printed in a standard perforated 4-up postcard layout, providing four cards per sheet.
Businesses and professionals shopping for general use cards can see which drawings are popular as well as which drawings could us more support.
When an additional need is identified (such as for a specific product) customized cards with drawings are provided directly to the manufacturing company for inclusion in the product box or on the product itself (for example, on a tag hanging from clothing) or to be dropped in the mail.
As cards are ordered and printed, HeartReach tracks how many times each child's drawing is used. Knowing the production cost and other organizational overhead, HeartReach calculates the revenue generated by each card that was ordered. HeartReach allocates a portion of that revenue to the child who produced the drawing. In addition, 100% of the direct consumer donations are allocated to the child.
Each participating child will receive a quarterly estimate of their balance at HeartReach, and a definitive yearly balance statement is provided after taxes and additional yearly overhead costs are finalized.
Upon turning 18, the child will receive the full allocation their drawing generated through HeartReach Cards.
If - after reasonable efforts* are made - HeartReach is unable to locate the child following their 18th birthday, the balance allocated to that child will be donated to a foster care organization (or organizations) in that child's last known county. In the tragic case that a child does not reach his or her 18th birthday, the balance will be allocated in the following manner:
* "Reasonable efforts" is defined as a minimum of three (3) written attempts to contact over a period of no fewer than 3 months using the last known address of the child, as well as a minimum of three (3) attempts to contact the child via phone (if a phone number has been provided) over a period of no fewer than 3 months using the last known phone number associated with the child. Each quarterly estimate and yearly statement will include forms to allow for updating of the child's contact information in order to keep this data up to date.
